American space western television series The Mandalorian has bagged a total of 15 Emmy nominations which also includes the best visual effects and outstanding drama series category. The Disney+ original is the first live-action series in the popular Star Wars franchise. The storyline of the television series is set five years after the events of Return of the Jedi and 25 years before The Force Awakens. The first season had eight episodes and has already received positive reviews from both critics and viewers for its writing, direction, visual effects, acting, etc.
The Mandalorian Nominated for 15 Different Emmy Awards
The Mandalorian has been nominated in the following categories- Outstanding Sound Mixing in a Comedy or Drama series and animation (half-hour) and Stunt Coordination for a Drama series, limited series, or movie. Other nomination categories include Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score), Outstanding Sound Editing for a comedy or drama series (half-hour), and animation. A few other nominations for The Mandalorian are prosthetic makeup for a series, limited series, movie or special under makeup/hair stylists category, and single-camera picture editing for a drama series under the picture editor’s category.
Under the art directors and set decorators category, The Mandalorian has been awarded the nomination for production design for a narrative program (half-hour). Two other nominations include cinematography for a single-camera series (half-hour) under cinematographer’s category and fantasy/sci-fi costumes under costume design and supervision.
Taika Waititi also bagged a nomination for the character voice-over performance narrator. Giancarlo Esposito was also nominated for the outstanding guest actor in a drama series.
Animation top official Hal Nickel nominated for The Mandalorian also has a lot of other projects to his credit. For example, he has worked on a couple of Star Wars feature films. Nickel has also been awarded an Oscar award for his work in the action-comedy pirate movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.
Industrial Light and Magic and VFX supervisor Richard Bluff head The Mandalorian’s VFX department. If the Disney+ original manages to win an award, it will not be for the first time.
The work done by Industrial Light and Magic has won the Emmy award in the VFX category for Star Wars: The Ewok Adventure in the year 1984 and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor in 1985. Animated Star Wars: Clone Wars have also won four daytime Emmy awards. Rogue One: A Star Wars story fame DP Greig Fraser is a nominee for cinematography.
A Tough Competition in the Best Drama Series Category
Ozark, The Mandalorian and Succession will vie for the best drama series award along with Netflix original The Crown, AMC’s Better Call Saul, BBC’s Killing Eve. Hulu original The Handmaid’s Tale based on Margaret Atwood’s book of the same name and finally Netflix original Stranger Things are also a part of the best drama series nomination list.
The Mandalorian: First Live-Action Show in the Star Wars Universe
The Mandalorian is also known as Star Wars: The Mandalorian. The show has been created by American actor and director Jon Favreau. It follows the story of a Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his adventures beyond the reaches of the New Republic. The New Republic is a fictional government in the Star Wars universe.
The Mandalorian first premiered on online video streaming platform Disney+ on November 12, 2019. According to reports, a second season in the pipeline to be released somewhere in October 2020. Reports suggest that the makers have begun pre-production work on a potential third season. The character of Din Djarin has been voiced by Pedro Pascal.
With the official Emmys ceremony being conducted on September 20, 2020, we are still yet to see who wins the maximum number of awards at this prestigious ceremony. All we can do is to sit tight and wait for the show to begin.
